Kids and ministry...

Last night, I went to Quinlan Texas to see a children’s program which is having great success. They are a church of about 75 regular attendees and they are ministering to 40+ kids on Wednesday nights. The Pastor really has a heart for kids. The kids are predominantly those who come to church without their parents. They have a 1 hour program with three different stations. They break their kids into age groups and the kids spend 20 minutes at each station. The stations consist of a teaching station, a music station, and a free play station (they utilize a school gym for this program). This seems to be a good fit in their context of ministry. Here are my questions.

What do parents expect from the church as far as their kids are concerned?
What should a children’s ministry look like?
How much should we expect from the kids?

All input is appreciated.

Children are the future of any church but the danger lies in the church becoming a free babysitting service where children aren’t’ challenged. What thinkest thou?
